 (Ages 5 - 7 Years)

13 week session

Come celebrate the music of cultures around the world! Our sixty-minute Music Makers: Around the World 1 class for 5- to 7-year-olds is a perfect follow-up to Music Makers: At Home in the World, but we also welcome new students to join the fun and learning.

In this class, children explore the music, dances, and stories of different cultures. The key music ingredients are singing, listening, playing instruments, movement, tonal and rhythm patterns, as well as chording and ensemble work. By echoing and playing patterns, the children will build a vocabulary of musical phrases which they can recognize aurally and visually, leading to an understanding of musical notation. Culminating celebrations of each culture, through music, foods, and participation in special traditions, are highlights for the children.

Caregivers join in last fifteen minutes. Music MakersAround the World classes are an excellent preparation for studying piano in Music Makers: At the Keyboard next year! Call Karen (671-9574) if you have questions about which World class is right for your child (See the description of Music Makers: Around the World 2 below**).

Materials include a recording (a CD, plus a digital download), a map, song pages, and notation games. Children will receive 3 packets throughout the 27 weeks, comprised of two 13-week semesters plus a make-up week.

**Music Makers: Around the World 2 builds on the activities from the Around the World 1 level by taking the children to the piano, where they learn to play simple chords and melodies that have been sung in class. The African American Heritage unit presents many fun new activities for listening, moving, ensemble work, reading notes, and hearing stories, as well as material for work at the piano. The World 2 class offers a gradual transition from the pre-piano levels into the study of the piano. Please call Karen to discuss which class may be the best placement for your child, 671-9574.
